A community-based residential nursing home for the elderly began operating recently in the Xingfu community in Lhasa's Chengguan district in the Tibet autonomous region, Tibet Daily reported.
The first of its kind in the region, the center mainly focuses on serving seniors who don't have supporting family care, empty-nesters, financially disadvantaged or disabled seniors and the very aged.
The Xingfu community has 570 elderly people whose average age is above 60, accounting for 7.2 percent of the total population.
Wang Li, a responsible person at the nursing home, said it would arrange staff to provide services such as meal assistance, cleaning, medical services and communication for the elderly residents. It also provides services such as reporting and coordinating emergency rescue, police, fire control, security guards, relatives and neighbors to satisfy individual needs.
"Next, we will try to increase our services at the center," Wang said. "We hope to provide meal assistance, cleaning, medical aid, and emergency services to seniors with walking difficulties."
