TAIYUAN -- A Chinese medical team on Thursday set out for Cameroon and Togo from Taiyuan, the capital city of north China's Shanxi Province, on a one-year medical aid mission.
The team consists of 36 members specialized in 12 areas including internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, etc. In addition to routine medical work, they will also assist local medical staff in fighting COVID-19.
Since China sent its first medical team to Algeria in 1963, nearly 30,000 medical team members have been dispatched overseas, offering treatment to over 300 million patients.
Shanxi Province has sent a total of 59 batches of 1,268 team members to Cameroon, Djibouti and Togo since 1975.
