Xi'an high-tech zone promotes high quality development

Xi’an High-tech Industrial Development Zone, one of the top zones of its type in China, is attempting to promote high quality development by speeding up scientific and technological innovation.

As part of this effort, the zone held a work conference on accelerating scientific and technological innovation to promote high quality development on March 24 in Xi’an, capital city of Shaanxi province in Northwest China. During the meeting, zone representatives comprehensively summarized the scientific and technological innovation work that was undertaken in 2020, and arranged and deployed the scientific and technological innovation work for 2021.

Ma Xianping, vice mayor of Xi'an and secretary of the Party working committee of the high-tech zone, made a speech at the conference and said that under the new development pattern, the zone should firmly focus on its new mission to create an "innovation driven development demonstration zone" and a "high quality development pioneer zone". It must also put scientific and technological innovation in a prominent position within its overall modernization program, promote scientific and technological innovation in line with the major national strategic deployment, promote scientific and technological innovation to serve the province and city, and build a world-class science and technology zone by further promoting scientific and technological innovation.

“We should stand at the world's leading edge of science and technology, enhance our competitiveness in terms of science and technology innovation, and participate in the development of globalization," Ma said. "We must also face the main economic battlefield, enhance the leading forces of science and technology innovation in high quality development, meet major national needs, enhance the ability of science and technology to lend support for modernization, improve the people's health, and enhance the ability of science and technology to provide for a better life.”

Ma Xianping requested that all departments at all levels of the high-tech zone should integrate the innovative power of all parties to the maximum extent in order to promote scientific and technological innovation. They must also further stimulate the vitality of various innovation groups, provide solid scientific and technological support for accelerating the construction of a world-class science and technology zone, and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Party and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the high-tech zone with excellent achievements.

Since its establishment in 1991, Xi'an high-tech zone has always taken innovation as its main priority throughout the whole development process. It has successfully explored a way for inland high-tech zones to achieve leapfrog high quality development by relying on independent innovation. Over the past year, Xi'an high-tech zone has applied for more than 40,000 patents, and its technology trading volume has reached 46 billion yuan. Remarkable achievements have thus been made in scientific and technological innovation.
