Tianjin's policies help support intelligent manufacturers

Over the past five years, Tianjin has seen the benefits of its policies and measures to support the municipality's intelligent manufacturers and promote industrial transformation and upgrading.

The added value of industrial strategic emerging industries accounted for 26.1 percent of industries above designated size, rising 8.6 percentage points over the last five years.

During the same period, the scale of the software industry doubled to exceed 200 billion yuan($30.6 billion). A number of leading companies such as Toutiao and 360 Technology have been nurtured and introduced.

Intelligent manufacturing has also been expanding at breakneck speed. Tens of billions of yuan in special funding has been allocated to bolster 1,726 projects, and 102 smart factories and digital workshops have been built, including Danfoss' data center, Haier's 5G factory and Masterwork Technology.

The municipality's construction of information infrastructure has taken the lead in the country, with a total of 24,000 5G base stations built. The innovative development of the industrial internet has cultivated several industrial internet platforms and more than 6,000 industrial enterprises have benefited from cloud technologies.

New business formats and new models continue to emerge. Online economies have bolstered areas such as healthcare and education, both of which have made contributions to the fight against the pandemic.

As for the development of the artificial intelligence industry in Tianjin, the World Intelligence Congress (WIC) has become an impressive event held in the city. It has greatly benefited Tianjin's industrial development by giving the municipality an edge in mobilizing global resources.

Launched in 2017, WIC is a multi-level platform that promotes academic exchanges, communication and cooperation, and the release and application of cutting-edge intelligent technologies.

The congress has facilitated a total of 348 cooperation agreements that have an accumulative value of 353 billion yuan.

Over the course of its four sessions, it has attracted 60,000 participants from 56 countries and regions. A total of 134 experts and scholars from home and abroad, including winners of the Nobel and Turing prizes, academicians and scholars, have shared their unique insight on the future of the smart technology industry and its potential to change lives and empower economic progress.

Up to 1,000 Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs came to Tianjin to participate in the past conferences. Big names from the top 500 lists for domestic and foreign companies participated in the events, including Intel, Microsoft, Siemens, IBM, SAP, Huawei, Tencent and Baidu, among others.

Held from June 23 to 24 last year, the fourth conference's broadcast live attracted a total of 705 million views.

The 5th World Intelligence Conference will be held in Tianjin from May 20 to 23.
