2021 undergraduate programs for international students at Zhejiang University

I. General Information for Undergraduate Programs

Zhejiang University is a national key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education and among the first batch of “double first-class” universities in China. Nearly 100 undergraduate majors have been established in colleges and departments affiliated to the seven faculties of science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, information technology, humanities and social sciences. With program length ranging from four to six academic years, undergraduate programs are primarily offered in Chinese, while some English-taught programs are also available. Graduates who fulfill all the degree requirements will be awarded with a bachelors’ degree.

II. Application Duration:

Chinese-taught Programs: From now until March 31, 2021.

English-taught Programs: From now until April 30, 2021.

Please make sure to complete the online application before the deadline.

Please note:

1.All applicants must log onto the International Student Application & Admission System of Zhejiang University (Link), submit all the necessary application documents as required and pay the application fee.

2.The winter break is from January 29, 2021, to February 26, 2021. Applications submitted during the above-mentioned time period will be processed after the beginning of the new semester.

III. Application Fee, Tuition Fee and Medical Insurance

1.Application Fee: RMB800 (non-refundable).

2.Tuition:

To find the tuition and other information for a specific program, please refer to the undergraduate program catalog.

3.Medical Insurance Fee: RMB800/Year (For specific information, please refer to item IX)

4.Payment Method: Applicants are encouraged to pay the application fee and tuition fee via the Online Application & Admission System (Link). If one fails to make the online payment, then one MUST pay the application fee to the University’s Bank Account (Link) and upload the remittance letter to the system.

IV. Eligibility

1.Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with proper moral conduct, who are in good health with no infectious disease or any physical or mental diseases that may affect normal study. They must have graduated from high school and be under the age of 25. (Graduating high school students can provide pre-graduation certificates and then provide their graduation certificates no later than registration.)

2.Requirements of the regulations set in Document No. 12 (2020) of the Ministry of Education of the PRC should be met. (Link)

2.1 Applicants who have given up their original Chinese citizenship and become foreign citizens must have become foreign citizens before April 30, 2017, and must have lived abroad for more than two years from April 30, 2017, to April 30, 2021 (more than nine months of residence abroad per year can be considered as one year).

2.2 If the applicant has one or more parents who are Chinese citizens and acquired foreign citizenship automatically at the time of birth in a foreign country, the parent’s (with Chinese citizenship) should have been permanent residents in the foreign country prior to the birth of the applicant. Applicants must have lived abroad more than two years from April 30, 2017, to April 30, 2021 (more than nine months of residence abroad per year can be considered as one year).

3.Language proficiency requirements

3.1. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must have an HSK certificate. Specific HSK requirements can be found in the catalog of Chinese-taught undergraduate programs.

3.2. There are no Chinese-language proficiency requirements for the applicants of English-taught programs. If the applicants’ native language is not English, they should provide a score report from an English-language test (e.g. TOEFL/IELTS/OTHER).

The TOEFL DI Code of Zhejiang University is C340. TOEFL MyBest score is accepted.

V. Documents for Application

Applicants must log onto the International Student Application & Admission System of Zhejiang University (Link), clearly fill in and completely upload the following materials as required.

1.A passport photocopy.

2.Senior high school diploma (original copy or notarized copy). Graduating high school students can provide a pre-graduation certificate.

3.Complete course transcript for senior high school (original copy or notarized copy);

4.HSK certificate (for Chinese-taught program applicants).

5.TOEFL/IELTS or other score reports from an English-language test (for English-taught program applicants, whose native language is not English).

6.Two recommendation letters from high school teachers. Teachers’ signature, contact phone number and email address must be on the letter.

7.A personal statement that should include study experience, reasons for application and personal strengths. Less than 800 words.

8.Award certificates related to academic courses during your senior high school period. (If any)

9.Applicants who have given up their original Chinese citizenship and become foreign citizens should submit: (1) the cancellation certificate of Chinese citizenship; (2) current citizenship certificate; (3) Exit and Entry Record on passport, from April 30, 2017, to April 30, 2021.

10.Applicants who have one or more parents who are Chinese citizens and acquired foreign citizenship automatically at the time of birth in a foreign country should submit: (1) birth certificate of a foreign country; (2) Chinese parents’ permanent resident certificate of a foreign country; (3) Exit and Entry Record on passport, from April 30, 2017, to April 30, 2021.

11.Applicants under the age of 18 (by Sept 1, 2021) should submit: (1) a letter of Guardian Guarantee (Download) and the guardian must be an adult living in Hangzhou; (2) a notarized copy of the Guardianship Authorization from the applicant’s parents.

Notes:

1. Results of international standard tests (e.g. SAT/IB/GCE A-LEVEL/ACT/STPM/GED/UEC/OTHER) or university entrance exams from the applicant’s country are accepted. It is strongly recommended to provide the student’s relative ranking or percentile in the school if the applicant could only submit the test scores from the school.

2. Application documents in other languages must be translated into Chinese or English and notarized.

3. Please do NOT deliver the hard copies of the application materials or submit applications via email. Hard copies of the application materials and applications submitted by email will NOT be reviewed or further processed.

4. Zhejiang University may ask the applicants to submit supplementary materials or take a telephone/video interview if necessary.

5. Applicants for ZJU-UIUC Institute and ZJU-UoE Institute must apply through the website of ZJU-UIUC Institute (Link) or ZJU-UoE Institute (Link) first and complete the application in the Online Application & Admission System (Link) if they pass the evaluation of these two institutes.

VI. Selection Process and Dates for Announcing Admission Results

1. Students are enrolled on the basis of competitive selection according to their academic performance in senior high school, language proficiency and performance in the interview. The university will determine the name list of preliminary admission in different batches according to the application received. Applicants can also log on to track the admission process.

2. The applicants who received the Pre-Admission Notice should prepay the first-year tuition fee on the Online Application System within the specified time period stated on the notice. If the applicant is unable to make the payment online due to a certain reason, then one MUST pay the tuition fee to the University’s Bank Account (Link) and upload the remittance letter to the system. The pre-admission will be canceled if applicants fail to prepay the first-year tuition fee within the stated time period.

3. The official Admission Notice, Visa Application Form (JW202 Form) and other relevant admission documents will be mailed to enrolled applicants once the prepaid tuition fee is confirmed to be received and the University Calendar is released.

Caution:

1.When wiring the tuition fee to the university’s bank account, you must fill in the application serial number and applicant’s name.

2.The university will only reserve study places for students who have paid the tuition fee for the first academic year in advance. If students later, for personal reasons, give up schooling or apply for withdrawal procedures after registration, resulting in a vacancy in the school’s enrollment, prepaid tuition fees for the first academic year will NOT be refunded.

3.For the admitted students who are disqualified by the university as they fail to meet the school’s registration requirements, the prepaid tuition fee will NOT be refunded.

VII. Registration

1.Admitted applicants should strictly follow the registration time on the admission notice. Admitted applicants are required to provide the original copies of graduation certificates and original copies of language proficiency certificates; those who fail to provide the original copies will be disqualified from the enrollment process.

2.Undergraduate programs of Zhejiang University usually start from late August or early September every year. For exact registration dates, please refer to the Admission Notice.

VIII. Scholarships

1.Chinese Government Scholarship

Only open to students of Chinese-taught programs. Applicants should directly contact their local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. When completing the scholarship application form, the applicant should select Zhejiang University as the first priority institution.

2.Freshmen Scholarship RMB20,000

Zhejiang University provides a Freshmen Scholarship to outstanding applicants for Chinese-taught programs. Applicants need to fill in the Scholarship Application Form (Download) and submit it together with other application materials.

3.Scholarships for English-taught Dual Degree Programs in International Campus (Haining)

International Campus (Haining) offers full or partial scholarships to outstanding applicants for English-taught Dual Degree Programs. Applicants must apply through the website of ZJU-UIUC Institute (Link) or ZJU-UoE Institute (Link).

IX. Medical Insurance

Fee: RMB800/academic year

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education, international students who come to Zhejiang University to study for one semester or longer must purchase comprehensive medical insurance in the Chinese mainland as a necessary requirement for their registration for the new semester.

Students who fail to purchase comprehensive medical insurance that meets certain requirements will NOT be registered by the university.

Information related to purchasing insurance will be provided in detail before registration. The admitted students should strictly follow the instructions on the notice to handle insurance affairs.

Note: Medical treatment expenses for physical or mental diseases that students suffered from before coming to China CANNOT be covered by this insurance.
