General History of Ningxia

One of Ningxia museum's permanent exhibitions, it highlights the extensive and profound history and culture of Ningxia in Northwest China, from the Paleolithic period 40,000 years ago through to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
Located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, nestled between Liupan Mountain and Helan Mountain, Ningxia has long been a place where different ethnic groups in the northwest region have cohabited .Therefore, this exhibition features six sections which explore these diverse local cultures with their distinct regional and ethnic features in areas like fishing, hunting, agricultural activities, and animal husbandry, as well as the Silk Road, the Western Xia Kingdom (1038-1227), and the Hui ethnic group.
The narrative follows the chronology of Chinese history, showcasing key relics unearthed from the Caiyuan village and the Yaoheyuan ruins, as well as the latest research results from the Ningxia Great Wall of the Warring States Period (475-221 BC), the Ningxia section of the Silk Road, the re-location of the Western Xia Kingdom, and the role Ningxia played in military and hydrological systems from the 13th to the early 20th century.
Apart from the museum’s original resources, the exhibition also presents new acquisitions made in the past decade and major archaeological discoveries in the autonomous region.These are showcased using innovative display methods, with key exhibits highlighted to achieve a sensible layout and organic composition.
