Guangxi is set to devote efforts towards building a new highland for health cooperation between China and ASEAN, officials from the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region said on March 12.
The region will deepen the construction of a "Health Silk Road", push forward the implementation of the cross-border joint prevention and control project for infectious diseases in the Lancang-Mekong region, as well as promote Guangxi's experiences in the prevention and treatment of thalassemia to countries and regions along the Belt and Road.
During the 13th Five Year Plan period (2016-20), Guangxi has organized a series of big events such as the International Medical Innovation and Cooperation Forum (China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and the China-ASEAN Forum on Health Cooperation.
A campaign to reduce blindness caused by cataracts, launched by Guangxi and other parties in Kampong Cham in Cambodia, has achieved good outcomes.
A team of seven medical experts from Guangxi was dispatched to Cambodia in March 2020 to assist the country in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, making Guangxi the first in China to send medical experts to ASEAN countries.
Officials from the Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region noted that the region will continue to dispatch medical teams to two African countries, namely Niger and Comoros, in the next few years.
