Covering 43,080 square meters, the Yichang Museum was built according to the standards of a national first-class museum. The building’s architectural design integrates the elements of the Ba Culture and the Chu Culture.
The permanent exhibitions fully demonstrate the natural history, rich culture and civilization of the city and highlight the Ba and Chu cultures’ local characteristics. They showcase specimens of flora and fauna, fossils and minerals, and folk customs and cultural relics related to Yichang city.
Through illustrating local people’s lives, and the hydropower, geology, and landforms of Yichang, the museum presents the courage and fortitude of the Yichang people. It is one of the city’s calling cards and education bases, and plays a dominant role in publicizing Yichang and promoting its local cultural tourism.
