The sixth session of the 14th Guiyang Municipal People's Congress was held in Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province on Feb 25 – and according to the government work report released by Mayor Chen Yan, the city has set a high economic growth target for the future.
In 2020, Guiyang's GDP reached 431.17 billion yuan ($66.75 billion), with per capita GDP topping $12,000 and the annual economic growth rate was 9 percent, ranked among the best in China's provincial capitals.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Guiyang's GDP is expected to achieve an annual growth rate of more than 8 percent, with per capita GDP targeted to reach 100,000 yuan ($15,470), while the added value of the manufacturing industry is projected to account for 25 percent of GDP and private investment is expected to contribute 60 percent to fixed-asset investment.
By 2035, Guiyang's total economic output will exceed a projected 1 trillion yuan, with per capita GDP reaching the level of moderately developed countries.
The metropolis will also reportedly see significant improvements in innovation ability and efficiency, while realizing new models of industrialization, access to information technology, urbanization and agricultural modernization.
By that stage, Guiyang will catch up with the developed areas of East China in terms of public service and infrastructure. Efforts in popularizing energy conservation and environmental protection along with industrial development will make the city more beautiful, harmonious, livable and safe.
