Li Shufu, chairman of Geely Holding Group
Li Shufu said in his proposal truck electrification is imperative, as the auto industry has to achieve emissions management. But truck electrification faces barriers from existing standards such as GB 1589-2016, which targets models with traditional engines. The standards do not have a thorough consideration for emerging technologies, including power battery system and battery swapping, and the development of new industrial modes. In particular, the maximum weight and length limits of a truck no longer fit in the new technological development and new business modes for truck electrification and battery swapping.
He suggested a supplementary provision for the GB 1589-2016 standard that mainly stipulates size, axle load and weight of a vehicle: the maximum weight limit in terms of an electric truck should increase by 10 kilograms for every 1 kilowatt hour of battery power, and the maximum length of an electric truck with a battery swapping function should be raised to 18.5 meters so as to speed up application for new energy vehicles.
