Cherry blossom season in Wuxi approaches

The city of Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province is recognized as a fabulous destination for admirers of cherry blossoms. Tourists flock to the country each spring to view the flowers.

This year, the cherry trees will bloom about 10 days earlier than usual due to the record high temperature in February, according to the local weather bureau.

About 500 early cherry trees are blooming at Yuantouzhu scenic area, the most famous destination for enjoying cheery blossoms in Wuxi. They have been keeping their florescence for about 20 days.

Typically, a cherry tree might only remain in bloom for one to two weeks. They even only maintain their "peak color" for about three days.

Somei Yoshino, a kind of much-appreciated Japanese white cherry blossom, will start to bloom around March 10 around Wuxi, according to officials.

According to the local weather bureau, the first batch of the five-petal white cherry blossoms can be seen on March 8 at Jinkui Park, Jiangnan University, Duyue Road, Wudu Road, and Linghu Avenue. Their full-blooming can be seen around March 17.

Yuantouzhu scenic area and Changguangxi Wetland Park will provide views of Somei Yoshino blossoms staring from March 10. These enchanting sights can also be enjoyed at Nianhuawan scenic area, Hongshawan scenic area, and Huihaiwan Ecological Park starting from March 12.

Visitors will also be able to view the final cherry blossoms over the three-day Qingming Festival holiday in April this year.
