Massive gas field discovered in Shanxi province

China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC), China's largest offshore oil and gas producer, announced the discovery of a large gas field in Lyuliang city in North China's Shanxi province on Feb 28.

The gas field in Lyuliang, named Linxing, is on the Ordos Basin's eastern edge, with proven geological reserves of more than 101 billion cubic meters. It is rich in unconventional natural gas such as tight gas, coalbed methane and shale gas.

A total of 526 wells have been drilled at the gas field, which produced more than 5 million cu m of natural gas per day in 2020. The gas field has supplied 1.84 billion cu m of natural gas since it was put into production, and further exploration and development are ongoing at the site.

As development continues, the gas field will significantly enhance the clean energy supply capacity in North China.

According to the plan, CNOOC strives to build the Linxing gas field into a large gas field with an annual production capacity of 3.3 billion cu m and a yearly output of 2.7 billion cu m in the next three years.

The natural gas from this gas field is expected to be transported to Xiongan New Area in Hebei province in July of this year.
