Beijing Hyundai launched the new Mistra sedan, available in both gasoline and electric versions, on Monday, in an effort to boost its going-upward campaign in the competitive Chinese market.

The new gasoline Mistra, available in five variants, is priced from 133,800 yuan to 168,800 yuan, according to the Sino-South Korean carmaker. It said the electric Mistra has three variants, priced from 178,800 yuan to 203,800 yuan.

The carmaker said the launches constitute one important part of its product strategy for 2021, which focuses on medium and high-end vehicles, SUVs and new energy vehicles.

The new gasoline Mistra, with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm, features Hyundai's signature 1.5-liter turbocharged CVVD engine and has a fuel consumption of 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers.

It has Level 2 plus driving assist functions as well as class-leading smart connectivity system, among other things.

The electric Mistra is the latest member of Hyundai's electric vehicle lineup in China.

It has a driving range of 520 km according to the NEDC standard, and that makes it one of the longest among international brands' localized models.

The model is expected to form a trio with the electric Encino SUV and the electric La Festa sedan, which will help consolidate Hyundai's competitive edge in the electric vehicle segment in China.

Beijing Hyundai launched the first-generation Mistra sedan in 2013, and since then over 750,000 have been sold in the country as the leading model in its segment.

Executives at the carmaker said the new Mistra, both the gasoline and the electric version, has kept its wheelbase and features class-leading smart applications, which would help it to consolidate its position among the B-class sedans.
