Shanxi University launches seven science, education innovation platforms

Shanxi University held a launch ceremony for seven jointly-developed scientific research institutions on Feb 9.

The event marked the completion of the School of Synthetic Biology, Dadi College of Environment, Dadi Institute for Ecological and Environmental Industry, Shanxi Laboratory for Yellow River, Shanxi Key Laboratory of Synthetic Biology and Shanxi Institute of Synthetic Biology at Shanxi University.

Huang Guitian, president of Shanxi University, addressed the launch ceremony. He stated that the construction of seven scientific and education innovation platforms is an important measure to enhance innovation capabilities and core competitiveness, give full play to the innovative role of the university and enterprises and develop new models of industry-university-research collaboration. The platforms will also focus on the six areas of new infrastructure, new technologies, new materials, new equipment, new products and new industries.

The university will work closely with Shanxi Dadi Environment Investment Holdings Co, Cathay Biotech Inc and Shanxi Transformation and Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone to accelerate the substantial operation of the science and education innovation platforms. The aim is to cultivate cutting-edge technologies in environmental protection and synthetic biology, gather top innovative talent and build a leading domestic collaborative tech innovation platform and training base.
