Covering a planned area of 5.2 square kilometers, Sihong Hongze Lake Wetland Scenic Area is located in the shoal area of northwestern Hongze Lake, the fourth largest freshwater lake in China. It is the largest comprehensive inland freshwater wetland tourist resort, and has the most complete ecosystem in eastern China. It is home to 194 species of birds, including the great bustard, oriental white stork, black stork, and red-crowned crane, all protected under first-class national protection as well as 26 species of birds under second-class national protection.
In addition, Sihong Hongze Lake Wetland Scenic Area is an important habitat and a wintering ground for migratory birds throughout the world. Every year, 500,000 migratory birds of more than 200 species settle and breed here. The slogan “travel in the great wetland and take a deep breath” takes on the most beautiful meaning in this scenic spot.
Sihong Hongze Lake Wetland Scenic Area is a national 5A-level tourist attraction that integrates ecology, leisure, sightseeing, and science education. It is home to many scenic spots, including the Hongze Lake Wetland Museum, the Lotus-view Garden, the Thousand Lotus Garden, and the Reeds Maze.
