Located in Luanping county, North China’s Hebei province about 130 kilometers away from Beijing, the Jinshanling Great Wall was built under the direction of General Xu Da (1332-85) in 1368 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
With five passes, three beacon towers, and 67 watchtowers that differ in construction materials, the number of tiers, and the patterns of roofs, the Jinshanling Great Wall starts from the Gubeikou Pass in the west and ends at the Wangjing Tower in the east, covering a total length of 10.5 kilometers.
As an important section of the Great Wall in China with a complete defensive system, the Jinshanling Great Wall is rated as a national foremost protected cultural heritage site, a national scenic spot, and a national 5A-level tourist attraction. It is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and enjoys a reputation as the “paradise of photographers”. Tourists can enjoy its breathtaking and magnificent natural scenery while taking photos and hiking during all four seasons.
