The culture and tourism market in Pudong New Area, Shanghai rebounded due to strong local leisure demand during the recent Spring Festival holiday, local media outlets reported.
Some 25 out of 31 scenic spots in the district opened to the public and from Feb 11 recorded over 1.67 million tourist visits during the seven-day holiday. That performance bounced back to 87.2 percent of the numbers recorded for the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday in 2019 before the COVID-19 epidemic, according to the district's administration of culture and tourism.
Notably, the Shanghai International Resort Area received 515,600 tourist visits during the break, 1.6 times the number in the same period in 2019, while the Lin-gang Special Area recorded about 228,000 visits.
The authority said the scenic spots all observed strict epidemic prevention measures, including controlling the numbers of visitors within 75 percent of their maximum capacity and introducing online registration systems to stagger arrivals.
The average booking rate of the district's hotels also increased more than 30 percentage points higher than in the same period of 2019 and most of the visitors were locals.
The occupancy rate of standard homestay hotels in suburban areas was nearly 100 percent and the average room price was nearly 800 yuan ($123.57) per night.
