Feb 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Feb 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 7 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 6 in Guangdong province and 1 in Sichuan province), 5 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai municipality), and no deaths. 55 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,212 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.
As of 24:00 on Feb 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,892 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,669 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 223 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on Feb 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 89,795 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 84,602 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 557 confirmed cases (including 10 cases in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases. 974,753 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 8,577 were still under medical observation.
On Feb 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 6 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 29 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 9 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Feb 16, 363 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 282 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Feb 16, 11,781 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 10,796 in Hong Kong (195 had died and 10,232 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 48 in Macao (46 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 937 in Taiwan (9 had died and 859 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
