Feb 9: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Feb 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 14 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 7 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Sichuan province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 75 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 6,787 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 2.
As of 24:00 on Feb 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,818 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,546 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 272 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on Feb 8, the National Health Commission had received reports of 89,720 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 84,027 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,057 confirmed cases (including 18 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 972,002 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 21,376 were still under medical observation.
On Feb 8, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 15 new asymptomatic cases (14 imported cases, and 1 indigenous case in Heilongjiang province). 60 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 12 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Feb 8, 593 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 292 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Feb 8, 11,643 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 10,667 in Hong Kong (186 had died and 9,918 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 48 in Macao (46 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 928 in Taiwan (9 had died and 848 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
