Guangxi is set to launch an exchange project for Hong Kong and Macao youths which will draw thousands of attendees, said Xu Shaochuan, head of the United Front Work Department of CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee, during a meeting held in Nanning from Feb 2 to 3.
The region has been taking full advantage of its Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan links to boost local socio-economic development since 2020.
It has held a series of activities such as the Guangxi-Hong Kong economic and trade cooperation conference and the Guangxi-Taiwan economic, trade and cultural cooperation forum in order to attract a batch of major projects in Guangxi, including the Fangchenggang rehabilitation town.
The region has insisted on providing better services for overseas Chinese and supporting Chinese education in ASEAN countries. It has raised more than 3 million yuan ($464,523.6) of anti-pandemic supplies for nearly 150,000 overseas Chinese since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Guangxi has dispatched a batch of excellent Chinese teachers to ASEAN countries to help local Chinese schools reopen, and has made innovations in encouraging online teaching. It has also built an online platform integrating functions such as Chinese teaching and applications for studying abroad, which has been popular among teachers and students from overseas Chinese schools.
Lin Huaiyong, director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, noted that Guangxi will further deepen its communication and cooperation with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in 2021.
