Construction work on the Tongji International Rehabilitation Medical Center is set to kick off in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) -- in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province -- in the first half of the year, according to local media reports.
Currently, preliminary planning and the design plans for the WHDZ project have been completed.
The medical rehabilitation center, covering an area of 90,000 square meters, will have 800 to 1,000 beds and is set to cost 2 billion yuan ($310 million).
The new facility will include the International Rehabilitation Medical Center, Rehabilitation Training Center, Rehabilitation Equipment Research Center and Rehabilitation Equipment Manufacturing Industrial Park.
Integrating the most advanced research results into clinical treatment reportedly provides superior help for patients throughout the course of their condition.
At the same time, the integrated transformation of production, education and research is expected to help drive the development of the rehabilitation equipment manufacturing industry.
The WHDZ will also launch a number of key medical and health projects during the 14th Five-year Plan period (2021-25), in order to create a 15-minute urban and rural health services circle.
These will include a health emergency command center, 120 emergency centers, a mental health center, a traditional Chinese medicine hospital and the Dajunshan hospital projects.
