To promote social harmony and stability, Shanxi (in North China) Women's Federation, Shanxi Provincial Department of Civil Affairs and other organizations recently promulgated a document, in which the organizations' officials offered suggestions on how to improve Shanxi's work related to helping and caring for rural left-behind women (whose husbands have left home to work elsewhere).
The document contains regulations on the protection of the women's legal rights and interests, and on the care offered to the women in their spiritual and cultural lives. The document also stresses greater efforts should be made to teach the women how to educate their children well, and to help the women find work and/or start their own businesses.
In addition, the document stresses the organizations should encourage the women to play greater roles in the managing of social affairs, and in promoting both family virtues and good family traditions.
Also, the document urges the women's federations, at all levels in Shanxi, to include the improvement of work related to helping and caring for rural left-behind women in the areas' work agenda. The document also urges the federations' workers to compile files on the women, to ensure the workers maintain accurate records of the women's personal information.
