BEIJING — China's mobile sci-tech museums recorded a total of 139 million visits made by audiences across the country as of the end of 2020, according to the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) on Jan 28.
The mobile sci-tech museum project is launched to enhance citizens' science literacy, according to the CAST.
Through mobile sci-tech museums, China provides free sci-tech education and entertainment to more people, especially those living in areas with no major sci-tech museums or abundant resources.
Since the project was launched in 2011, the CAST has developed 560 sets of popular scientific exhibitions and sent them to 4,142 stops during exhibition tours across the country.
Each exhibition of the mobile museum includes about 60 items of interactive exhibits and runs for two to three months at every stop. These interactive exhibits are designed to generate interest in learning science and scientific exploration.
Over the past decade, the mobile sci-tech museums reached nearly all county-level regions in the country, according to the CAST.
