The National Cultural Heritage Administration released its first list of major national-level sections of the Great Wall on Nov 26, which included two ruins in Baotou, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

The list covers sections that were erected during the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC), the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220) and the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). They are closely related to historical events, including the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), and include major bastions and beacon towers. The list features a total of 83 ruins.

Two of the ruins are located in Baotou. These sites not only functioned as military garrisons but also transportation hubs.

The Great Wall constructed during the Warring States period (475-221 BC), with a history of more than 2,000 years, spans 500 kilometers. It starts from Xuanhua county in Hebei province in the east, runs cross the south foot of Yinshan Mountain and Baotou city, then ends in the Urad Front Banner in the autonomous region.

The Great Wall constructed in the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) is a national cultural relic preservation site, with a history of more than 2,200 years.

Spanning a distance of about 120 kilometers, the Great Wall was built to defend against attacks by enemies. Now it is a comprehensive tourism site that integrates historical defense construction and culture with education, scenery and recreation.

A total of 15 sections of the Great Wall distributed throughout the autonomous region were included on the list.

According to requirements put forward by the National Cultural Heritage Administration, before the end of 2025, all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities should complete the construction, space management and control, monitoring, protection and repair of the major sections of the Great Wall.
