Nine of the 11 high-speed electric multiple units (EMUs) that operate at the high-speed railway connecting Beijing with Shenyang, Changchun and Harbin – the capital cities of China's three northeastern provinces – were produced by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicle Co Ltd (CRRC Changchun). The route began operations on Jan 22.

These high-speed EMUs are the CR400BF-G-type Fuxing Alpine EMUs developed by CRRC Changchun.

Based on the original Fuxing EMU "Jinfenghuang", the CR400BF-G-type EMU has been upgraded to include technology adapted for low temperatures. EMUs of this type have been put into use on multiple high-speed railway lines in northern China since 2019 due to their safe and consistent operations and high resistance to cold, wind and snow.

CRRC Changchun has solved the common issues of a sub-zero environment, such as crucial parts freezing, and built an EMU that can run at 350 kilometers per hour in temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius.

At present, 60 CR400BF-G-type EMUs are running on China's main high-speed railway lines. On the Beijing-Harbin high-speed railway, there will be more such EMUs in the future.

CRRC Changchun has established a family pedigree of Alpine EMUs covering all speed levels, with a total of more than 300 EMUs.

The 400-km/h cross-border interconnected EMU just coming off the production line can operate at high speeds at -50 C. It could be called the world's most "frost resistant" high-speed EMU.
