City building cultural attractions to complement latest industrial projects

With efforts made in developing the new economy, Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, is creating an array of new production and living scenarios.

In the city's Shuangliu district, a new industrial town focused on developing integrated circuits is on the rise.

The town, known as Chengdu IC Valley, or the CDICV, has a total planning area of 87 square kilometers. It is developing three pillar industries of new-generation information technology, nuclear technology and aerospace engineering.

With most of its staff members being young and highly educated, the CDICV provides complete support facilities for business, leisure, sports and entertainment. These aim to forge a harmonious industrial community of people, city and industry.

Up to now, the CDICV has introduced 44 projects, including China Electronics Technology Group, China Electronics Corporation and JLQ Technology, with a total agreed investment reaching 70.41 billion yuan ($10.89 billion).

According to the local government, the CDICV is expected to have an urban area exceeding 45 sq km by 2035. By that time, revenue from its main business is to surpass 250 billion yuan.

With the aim of forging itself into a park city, Chengdu has provided a "stage" for its new economy and created a series of new business models, which offer a better shopping environment for residents.

In early December 2020, a new cultural venue for Sichuan cuisine was revealed in Chengdu's Pidu district. Visitors can not only learn about the history of Sichuan cuisine, but enjoy dozens of authentic dishes cooked by expert chefs.

The new venue is part of a longstanding project of Chengdu－the Sichuan cuisine town.

Covering an area of 723 hectares, the town is focused on developing new business models that integrate Sichuan cuisine with farming, cultural innovation, research and study, and the health industry.

The town aims to forge itself into a leisure and entertainment destination for people who want rustic surroundings and are interested in Sichuan culture.

The Fanmate Flying International Creative Park, located in Wuhou district of Chengdu, is contributing to the city's industries of cultural innovation and tourism.

Established at the former site of a glider factory, the park offers venues for shows, performances, cafes and catering in an industrial setting. It has become a popular cultural site in Chengdu.

This year, Chengdu aims to introduce 63,000 more new economy companies, forging the city into "a city of opportunity", according to a senior official of the Chengdu new economic development commission.
