Jan 24: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 80 new cases of confirmed infections (15 imported cases, 5 in Guangdong province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Shanxi province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Liaoning province, 1 in Jiangsu province, 1 in Shaanxi province and 1 in Gansu province; 65 indigenous cases, 29 in Heilongjiang province, 19 in Hebei province, 12 in Jilin province, 3 in Shanghai and 2 in Beijing municipality), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 30 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,722 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 9.

As of 24:00 on Jan 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,604 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,306 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 298 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 23, the National Health Commission had received reports of 88,991 confirmed cases and 4,635 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 82,556 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,800 confirmed cases (including 94 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 954,707 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 37,678 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 23, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 92 new asymptomatic cases (including 10 imported cases). 15 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 5 imported cases) and 21 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 2 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 23, 1,017 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 273 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 23, 10,940 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 10,009 in Hong Kong (168 had died and 8,998 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 47 in Macao (46 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 884 in Taiwan (7 had died and 783 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
