Jan 22: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 103 new cases of confirmed infections (9 imported cases, 4 in Guangdong province, 3 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Anhui province and 1 in Fujian province; 94 indigenous cases, 47 in Heilongjiang province, 19 in Jilin province, 18 in Hebei province, 6 in Shanghai, 3 in Beijing municipality and 1 in Shanxi province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 27 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 3,103 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 12.

As of 24:00 on Jan 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,572 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,286 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 286 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 21, the National Health Commission had received reports of 88,804 confirmed cases and 4,635 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 82,495 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,674 confirmed cases (including 80 cases in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases. 949,349 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 35,752 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 21, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 119 new asymptomatic cases (including 20 imported cases). 15 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 14 imported cases) and 20 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 1 imported case). As of 24:00 on Jan 21, 929 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 273 imported cases). (Note: The number of asymptomatic cases under medical observation on Jan 21 increased by 1 after verification.)

As of 24:00 on Jan 21, 10,785 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 9,867 in Hong Kong (167 had died and 8,904 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 872 in Taiwan (7 had died and 771 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
