Jan 21: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 144 new cases of confirmed infections (18 imported cases, 9 in Shanghai municipality, 5 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Hubei province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region; 126 indigenous cases, 68 in Heilongjiang province, 33 in Jilin province, 20 in Hebei province, 2 in Beijing, 2 in Shanxi province and 1 in Shandong province), 5 new cases of suspected infections (all were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 19 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,246 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 6.

As of 24:00 on Jan 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,563 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,275 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 288 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 20, the National Health Commission had received reports of 88,701 confirmed cases and 4,635 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 82,468 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,598 confirmed cases (including 68 cases in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases. 947,364 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 36,874 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 20, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 113 new asymptomatic cases (including 16 imported cases). 32 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 13 imported cases) and 56 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 1 imported case). As of 24:00 on Jan 20, 844 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 268 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 20, 10,713 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 9,797 in Hong Kong (166 had died and 8,865 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 870 in Taiwan (7 had died and 769 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
