Jan 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 109 new cases of confirmed infections (13 imported cases, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Fujian province, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Sichuan province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Hunan province; 96 indigenous cases, 72 in Hebei province, 12 in Heilongjiang province, 10 in Jilin province and 2 in Beijing municipality), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 17 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,295 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. As of 24:00 on Jan 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,502 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,224 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 278 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 88,227 confirmed cases and 4,635 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 82,387 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,205 confirmed cases (including 42 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 938,464 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 34,150 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 119 new asymptomatic cases (including 16 imported cases). 11 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 32 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 6 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 16, 746 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 261 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 16, 10,398 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 9,502 in Hong Kong (162 had died and 8,724 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 850 in Taiwan (7 had died and 751 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
