BEIJING -- China's procuratorial agencies have prosecuted more than 228,000 people for organized and gang-related crimes in the past three years, data showed.
According to information released at a national meeting on procuratorial work, more than 68,000 people were prosecuted for their involvement in organized crime and more than 160,000 people were prosecuted for gang-related crimes.
In response to a large number of cases entering the prosecution stage, the Supreme People's Procuratorate required procuratorates at the provincial and municipal levels to call on officials in their respective jurisdictions to handle cases and step up their efforts.
China launched a three-year special campaign targeting organized crime and local offenses in 2018.
