BEIJING -- China's procuratorial organs in 2020 granted leniency to more than 290,000 criminal suspects who committed minor offenses, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) Monday.
Prosecutors decided not to arrest more than 88,000 criminal suspects and not to prosecute over 202,000 people, the SPP data showed.
It is a tradition for the country's procuratorial organs to prudently use measures of arrest, prosecution and detention to minimize unnecessary social tensions while maintaining a tough crackdown on severe violent crimes.
