The cargo throughput of Yantai Penglai International Airport in 2020 reached 67,371.3 tons, with a year-on-year growth of 18.07 percent, hitting a record high.
The increase was partly due to the Yantai government's efforts in promoting international cargo routes during the COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control period.
In 2020, Yantai launched a series of measures to promote international express freight services, opening cargo-only flights to Osaka, Japan and Hanoi, Vietnam. It also opened its flights to transport cherries on May 26, which reached more than 200 cities in one day.
Yantai has international freight routes to Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia, which has promoted trade with surrounding areas and strengthened Yantai's role as an international cargo center.
