Jan 6: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 32 new cases of confirmed infections (9 imported cases, 3 in Guangdong province, 3 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Shanghai municipality and 1 in Tianjin municipality; 23 indigenous cases, 20 in Hebei province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Liaoning province and 1 in Heilongjiang province), 2 new cases of suspected infections (1 imported case in Shanghai and 1 indigenous case in Liaoning), and no deaths. 21 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 784 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Jan 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,348 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,063 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 285 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 5, the National Health Commission had received reports of 87,215 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 82,138 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 443 confirmed cases (including 14 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 912,596 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 17,736 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 64 new asymptomatic cases (including 19 imported cases). 14 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 10 imported cases) and 8 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 3 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 5, 360 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 246 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 5, 9,912 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 9,049 in Hong Kong (153 had died and 8,127 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 817 in Taiwan (7 had died and 697 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
