Jan 4: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Jan 3, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 33 new cases of confirmed infections (20 imported cases, 6 in Shaanxi province, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Sichuan province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, 1 in Liaoning province and 1 in Fujian province; 13 indigenous cases, 6 in Liaoning, 4 in Hebei province, 2 in Beijing municipality and 1 in Heilongjiang province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 17 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 452 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Jan 3, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,323 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,037 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 286 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on Jan 3, the National Health Commission had received reports of 87,150 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 82,105 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 411 confirmed cases (including 10 cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 909,425 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 15,685 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 3, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 40 new asymptomatic cases (including 26 imported cases). 11 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 8 imported cases) and 4 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 3 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 3, 294 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 240 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Jan 3, 9,822 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 8,964 in Hong Kong (150 had died and 8,011 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 812 in Taiwan (7 had died and 689 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
