The construction of four intelligent fishing cages in Yantai, a coastal city of East China's Shandong province started on Dec 25.
The move is a part of the project to build 100 deep-water cages in the sea near Changdao Island and develop it into the largest fishery breeding base in Asia.
The project will be constructed by Yantai Jinghai Marine Fishing Company.
The first batch of four fishing cages, measuring about 70,000 cubic meters, will provide an intelligent platform for breeding deep-sea aquatic animals, and are expected to be put into use next year.
The platform is powered by wind energy and can perform automatic breeding, underwater monitoring, and underwater net washing.
Yantai Jinghai Marine Fishing Company said that it will integrate related resources to promote mass production and drive the development of the marine fishery industry chain, including engineering technology, biotechnology, aquaculture, processing, cold chain transportation.
