SUV -- The China Chamber of Commerce in Fiji (CCCF) donated on Thursday 20,000 Fijian dollars (about 10, 000 U.S. dollars) in cash to the Fiji Red Cross Society (FRCS) to help the island nation fight tropical cyclone Yasa which has killed four people and caused huge property damage.
The handing over ceremony was held in the Fiji Red Cross Society with the participation of representatives of the Chinese enterprises in the island nation.
Song Tianpeng, representative of the China Chamber of Commerce in Fiji, said that the donation came from 17 Chinese enterprises operating in Fiji and the donation shows the Chinese enterprises' sympathy and support for the Fijians affected in the recent tropical cyclone Yasa.
"In order to help the people in the affected areas in Fiji to overcome the difficulties as soon as possible, we, the China Chamber of Commerce in Fiji, decided to donate 20,000 Fijian dollars to the Fiji Red Cross Society," he said.
He told Xinhua that Chinese enterprises here in Fiji want to really fulfil their social responsibilities and after the tropical cyclone hit Fiji, they are eager to do something to help the Fijian people in the affected areas.
For her part, Ilisapeci Rokotunidau, director-general of the Fiji Red Cross Society, thanked the Chinese enterprises for their generous and timely assistance.
She told Xinhua that the Fiji Red Cross Society appreciated the donation by the Chinese enterprises.
"For us, the donation is big and timely because it enables us to use it to do something to help our fellow Fijians affected by the tropical cyclone. We would like to thank the Chinese enterprises for this donation," she said.
