Dec 18: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Dec 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 12 new cases of confirmed infections (11 imported cases, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Guangdong province, 1 in Shanxi province, 1 in Henan province and 1 in Yunnan province; 1 indigenous case in Sichuan province), no new cases of suspected infections and no deaths. 9 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 494 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.
As of 24:00 on Dec 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,079 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 3,817 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 262 confirmed cases (including 6 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on Dec 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 86,789 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 81,851 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 304 confirmed cases (including 8 cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. 890,102 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 7,014 were still under medical observation.
On Dec 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 11 new asymptomatic cases (including 9 imported cases). 10 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 9 imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Dec 17, 198 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 178 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Dec 17, 8,702 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 7,899 in Hong Kong (125 had died and 6,534 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 757 in Taiwan (7 had died and 616 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
