Huzhong district in the Daxinganling region of Heilongjiang province, widely known as China's coldest place, plunged to its lowest temperature of the winter so far on Sunday morning, the local meteorological bureau reported.
"A cold front brought temperatures as low as -40.9 C," said Wu Shuqin, director of the bureau. "Residents should pay attention to keep warm, as low temperatures will continue in the days ahead."
The extreme cold has its benefits, however. People in Huzhong had a chance to enjoy some marvelous natural scenery created by frozen rime. The frost on the trees turned the area into a dreamy landscape.
