With the passing of a cold front recently, a mountain was covered with rime ice, creating some unusual natural scenery on Hengshan Mountain in Hengyang, Hunan province, on Saturday.
The temperature slumped to 0 C up to 1,300 meters around Zhurong Peak, the highest point on the mountain. The annual rime-covered scenery will last for about 65 days — until late February.
A tourist surnamed Huang from the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in southern China said snow and ice are rarely seen there.
"The crystal rime transformed the mountain into a winter fairyland," Huang said. "It's the first time I've ever seen the rime, so the trip was worthwhile."
