Dec 6: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Dec 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 18 new cases of confirmed infections (17 imported cases, 6 in Shanghai municipality, 6 in Fujian province, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Sichuan province, 1 in Yunnan province and 1 in Shaanxi province; 1 indigenous case in Tianjin municipality), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 12 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 717 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.
As of 24:00 on Dec 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 3,936 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 3,690 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 246 confirmed cases (including 4 cases in serious condition) and 8 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on Dec 5, the National Health Commission had received reports of 86,619 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 81,706 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 279 confirmed cases (including 6 cases in serious condition) and 9 suspected cases. 883,072 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,540 were still under medical observation.
On Dec 5, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 2 new asymptomatic cases (both were imported cases). 11 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 6 (imported cases) became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Dec 5, 234 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 227 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Dec 5, 7,541 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 6,802 in Hong Kong (112 had died and 5,511 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 693 in Taiwan (7 had died and 574 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
