Longkou county in Yantai, Shandong province ranked 12th on the list of China's top 100 counties in terms of industrial strength.
The list was released by CCID Consulting, a firm affiliated with a think tank under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, on Nov 17.
According to the list, counties and county-level cities in eastern China are clearly stronger than those in other regions of the country in terms of industrial strength, accounting for 66 of the top 100 counties.
A total of nine counties in Shandong were included on the list, with Longkou ranking the highest among them.
The others were Jiaozhou, Rongcheng, Feicheng, Pingdu, Tengzhou, Zhucheng, Laixi, and Zouping.
Longkou has seven main industries, including high-end aluminum materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, and food processing.
Longkou fensi, a type of vermicelli made from bean starch, is a specialty popular in Yantai and throughout China, and has even been exported overseas.
