Northeast China's Jilin province plans to complete 2 million mu (133,333 hectares) of afforestation in 2021, to provide a great start to the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), according to local media reports on Nov 11.
Under the province's implementation plan for rehabilitation and improvement of forests in central and western Jilin province, the construction of farm-shelter forests will be further promoted.
Next year, the construction task for the project involves 263,810 mu, including 95,630 mu of newly established forest, 46,650 mu of degraded forest restoration and rehabilitation and 121,530 mu of over-mature forest.
From 2021, Jilin plans to carry out a highway, railway and riverbank shelter forest project over three years. The construction of national and provincial highway and railway shelter forests and the establishment of key riverbank shelter forests will be completed in 2021.
The establishment of highway shelter forests at the county, township and village levels will be completed in 2022 and 2023.
In addition, Jilin will undertake a forest vegetation rehabilitation project. Under it, the province will promote the recovery of forest land in key areas and restore forest vegetation.
