The Polytechnic Institute at Zhejiang University (ZJU)-Quzhou and the Institute of Zhejiang University-Quzhou – both located in Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province -- have been a boon to the economic and social development, as well as the industrial transformation and upgrading of the city, according to local officials.

The two institutes were co-established by ZJU and the other universities in Quzhou. They aim to achieve their goal of becoming double first-class facilities -- meaning they want to become world-class universities with world-class disciplines.

To that end the institutes -- which were established on Dec 28, 2018 -- have effectively combined the superior resources of ZJU and the universities in Quzhou and cultivated more high-end engineering and technical talent.

Officials said the resultant pilot and training facility was officially launched on July 18, 2020. After completion, it will be the first first-class chemicals industry virtual training and scientific research achievements pilot transformation center in China.

ZJU is one of China's top higher education institutions, as well as one of its oldest, with its roots going to 1897 and the founding of the Qiushi Academy.

Located in Hangzhou – one of the country's most picturesque cities – the university has seven faculties and 37 schools.

It is home to 3,741 full-time faculty members, including 46 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. In total, ZJU has 54,641 students, over 53 percent of whom are postgraduate students.
