As a result of vigilant conservation and preservation efforts, Yingkou in Northeast China's Liaoning province has seen an influx of migratory bird species making a pit stop there in their seasonal travels north and south.
There are eight bird migration routes around the world.
Among them, the East Asia to Australia migration route through China attracts the largest number of bird species. Yingkou is located on that route.
According to the local government, there are 242 species of wild birds in Yingkou.
The birds are important members of the natural ecosystem and play an important role in its stability, reducing pests. With the spread of human activity, the birds' habitats have been increasingly disturbed.
So the Yingkou city government put extra focus on environmental restoration and strengthening the protection and management of natural habitats, such as coastal waters and river mouths, to protect birds and their habitats.
To give migratory birds a comfortable and peaceful living environment, the local government challenged Yingkou residents to protect the birds and strengthen the consciousness of respecting and protecting nature.
The muddy beaches in Yingkou continue to increase while similar beaches across the world decline.
As a result, the city has become home to more flocks of birds.
April to May is the peak period for migratory birds at the mouth of the Daliao River, where more than 40,000 of them gather on wetlands and surrounding beaches every day.
During that period, Yingkou becomes a paradise for bird watchers and tourists alike.
People can enjoy a charming view of the sunset while watching large flocks of migratory birds fly over the river.
During this year's migratory bird season, Yingkou organized more than 60 service teams with over 2,000 volunteers to improve the migratory birds' living environment and habitats. The teams worked tirelessly to make sure Yingkou's habitats are pristine.
