Oct 18: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Oct 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 13 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 5 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Tianjin municipality and 1 in Sichuan province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 20 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 343 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases remained unchanged.
As of 24:00 on Oct 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 3,110 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,871 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 239 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases.
As of 24:00 on Oct 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 85,672 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 80,786 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 252 confirmed cases (including 5 cases in serious condition) and 4 suspected cases. 845,231 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 8,265 were still under medical observation.
On Oct 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 34 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 19 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 18 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Oct 17, 389 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 388 imported cases).
As of 24:00 on Oct 17, 5,818 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 5,237 in Hong Kong (105 had died and 4,963 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 535 in Taiwan (7 had died and 491 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
