Oct 17: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Oct 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 13 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 5 in Shanghai municipality, 4 in Tianjin municipality, 2 in Guangdong province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Shaanxi province), 1 new case of suspected infections (an imported case in Shanghai), and no deaths. 7 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 980 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Oct 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 3,097 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,851 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 246 confirmed cases (including 1 case in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Oct 16, the National Health Commission had received reports of 85,659 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 80,766 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 259 confirmed cases (including 5 cases in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases. 844,662 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 8,040 were still under medical observation.

On Oct 16, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 11 new asymptomatic cases (including 10 imported cases). 12 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 1 (imported case) became a confirmed case. As of 24:00 on Oct 16, 374 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 372 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Oct 16, 5,801 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 5,220 in Hong Kong (105 had died and 4,951 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 535 in Taiwan (7 had died and 491 had been cured and discharged from hospital).

As of 24:00 on Oct 15, 5,790 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 5,213 in Hong Kong (105 had died and 4,943 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 531 in Taiwan (7 had died and 491 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
