Fengshan county was recognized as national ecological civilization construction demonstration county by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, making it the first in Hechi to receive this title.
Fengshan is a national key ecological function zone. It boasts 430,000 mu (28,666.67 hectares) of fir, 315,000 mu of camellia, 220,000 mu of star anise, and 330,000 mu of walnuts. It is one of the main star anise production areas and forestry production bases in Guangxi, with a forest coverage rate of 83.84 percent. It is also an important ecological green barrier on the upper reaches of the Panyang River in Bama Yao autonomous county.
Since 2015, the county has established a long-term monitoring mechanism for ecological construction. Through the development of ecological agriculture and ecological forestry, as well as the construction of ecological villages and towns, Fengshan has strengthened biodiversity protection and comprehensive improvement of its rural environment. It has also implemented strategies to win the national "blue sky defense war" against air pollution.
From 2017 to 2019, the excellent rate of good air quality has been stable at over 98.9 percent, with the average rate ranking in the forefront of Guangxi. Its water environment quality reaches or is better than 100 percent of the Class III designation.
In the future, the county will continue to deepen its ecological civilization construction, as well as consolidate and upgrade its current achievements.
