The city of Quanzhou in East China's Fujian province, ranked 7th on the list of the top 10 tourist destinations in China during this year's National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, according to DT Caijing, the media data platform of China Business Network.
During the break, the core area of the ancient city of Quanzhou, which connects Zhongshan Road and the West Street area, attracted the most tourists.
In total, over 4.43 million visits were made to Quanzhou during the holiday.
One tourist on Sina Weibo expressed the long-held wish to go to Quanzhou on an extended visit.
"It was only after I came this time, that I found out that all the scenic spots in the ancient city are very close to each other," the tourist said.
"The best way to visit is to measure the beauty of Quanzhou with your feet."
In addition to Zhongshan Road and West Street, various activities held in the back streets and alleys in the ancient city were full of surprises.
"Whether you are old or young, serious or romantic, you can find pleasure in the ancient city, which shows its inclusive and diverse cultural charms," said Mo Kangfan, a tourist from Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
Elsewhere, Li Mianyu decided to stay in Quanzhou after graduating from the local Huaqiao University, due her love for the ancient city. During the holiday, she also worked as a tour guide for relatives and friends who came to Quanzhou for the break.
"I often participate in some lecturer training activities in the ancient city and I also look for books about Quanzhou's culture. This time, I chose an ancient city tour route for my family and friends, including the city gates, scenic spots and the food,” Li said.
