The 2020 China Malaysia (Guangxi) Online Durian Festival was held from Oct 5 to 8 in the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, achieving fruitful results.
A total of 340,000 Musang King durians were sold on the first day of the festival, with an overall turnover of more than 70 million yuan ($10.38 million).
The festival was the first of its kind as a themed promotion event for ASEAN agricultural products held by China this year, focusing on Musang King durians from Malaysia.
The festival set up its main venue in Guangxi's Qinzhou, while two sub venues were set up in Kuala Lumpur and Raub in Malaysia, the main place of origin of Musang King durians.
Daniel Yee, the agricultural counselor of the Embassy of Malaysia in China, said that the festival will greatly promote the fruit trade between Malaysia and China, further enhancing the communication and cooperation between Guangxi and Malaysia in agricultural products like fruit.
Yee added that Malaysia's Ministry of Agriculture hopes to establish a fast channel for Malaysian durians entering the Chinese market via Guangxi.
